September 2008: How to receive more faith
Romans 10:17, "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."
God's Word tells us that faith comes by hearing, and hearing of the Word of God. The Holy Spirit spoke to me not long ago, and showed me that the type of hearing which is being talked about here, is not merely receiving noise through your ears, but actually receiving it into your heart. There are a lot of Bible experts out there, which have no personal relationship with God, and they have no faith. They may know the Word, but they have never received the Word. It is through receiving what God's Word tells us, that our faith levels soars!
When God's Word tells us that those who believe in Him will do the same works (miracles) that He did, and we believe that, it opens us up to the faith needed to begin fulfilling that promise. The same is true for salvation - merely listening to the message isn't enough, it is when we receive God's promise and act upon it, is when things happen.
Do you want to receive MORE faith? Receive MORE of God's Word! Jesus told us that blessed are they who hear and use what they hear, for more shall be given:
Mark 4:24, "And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete [use], it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear [receive] shall more be given."
When the disciples asked Jesus to increase their faith, what did He do? Did He press a "faith button" on their foreheads? No, He gave them something to receive, and if they received it, their faith would soar. Consider this passage:
Luke 17:5-6, "And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith. And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you."
He spoke the Word, but it was their responsibility to receive it. When we receive God's Word, our faith will soar just like theirs. I have more about genuine Biblical faith in my teaching Biblical Faith and Healing.
