July 2006: "What have you been thinking about?"
Few people truly grasp the power of our thoughts. What we choose to dwell upon, will become reality to us. It is said that the difference between the victorious Christian and the defeated Christian, all boils down to what they are thinking about. If you see yourself as a failure, you will feel like one, act like one, and your life will conform around that incorrect image of yourself. If you feel like a victorious child of the Almighty God, then you'll begin to feel like it, act like it, and your life will conform around that image of yourself.
Strongholds are basically thinking patterns that we develop over time through repeatedly meditating or dwelling upon something. People who suffer from low self esteem have thought of themselves as failures until their mind becomes programmed to see themselves as failures. Once a stronghold is in place, everything that comes across our path is filtered through that stronghold. Before long, somebody can say, "You look great today!" but instead of taking it as a compliment, you instantly think to yourself, "Why do you say that? Do I look bad the rest of the week?"
Strongholds are devastating to our spiritual growth and victorious lifestyle, and it is vital that we tear them down by the renewing of our minds:
Romans 12:2, "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."
Be sure to check out the spiritual warfare teachings on this site. Many of them deal specifically with strongholds and will show you how to train your mind to think, feel, act and live like a child of the Almighty God!
God never made second class people, and there's no need for us to live like one!
